From stainless steel plates to essential architectural volumes: Maddalena Casadei thinks of a collection of accessories for flexible use in various domestic environments. On the occasion of the Salone del Mobile 2022, the outcome of the recent collaboration with the milanese designer will be unveiled.

The Eccetera collection of accessories, manufactured in stainless steel plates. Some of the products within the collection are specific to the bathroom environment, others such as coat hooks and shelves, more versatile from a design point of view due to the use of a single material, stainless steel. Quadrodesign’s practice of producing objects of good design – a coherent expression of the company’s values without the need to shout its design nor its brand – is the element that has brought the designer in contact with the company in the first place.

“Since its foundation, we have thought and designed wanting the perception of Quadrodesign to be that of a design company, for which the faucets were one of the many declinations, maintaining the focus on the twenty years of experience gained on the production of stainless steel products. The meeting with Maddalena was based on this principle: Eccetera is the stylistic solution of a common thought between corporate vision and design realization”.
Enrico Magistro Quadrodesign’s co-owner and art director.

Maddalena Casadei’s previous experience in designing with metal, of which she knows the merits and limits, has met with Quadrodesign in the ideal condition. The challenge was to use the metal sheet, a basic shape, and to work on the concept of geometric volumes: thus, for example, the towel bars take on a three-dimensional level from the same cut and bent sheet and the detail of the curves obtained from a flat surface becomes the protagonist. Functionality and cleanliness of the sign: an approach that cites rationalism in architecture from which the designer is fascinated, as from many objects, even anonymous ones with their details and finishes that mixed with experiences, dialogues and gestures originate the personal creative vision.

“Bathroom and kitchen accessories are secondary elements but with a strong presence, the simpler and cleaner the better. So slowly we worked to lighten and dry the line of this collection.” This is how Maddalena Casadei explains when asked about challenges overcome in defining the collection. While on how the collaboration with Quadrodesign was born she says “The relationship with Quadrodesign was born because, to be honest, during the first months of pandemic, in which I spent many hours on IG and in general on the internet, I came across the brand and the more time passed the more I was attracted. It exuded everything opposite of what was going on: it didn’t scream, it didn’t scowl, it stayed consistent. So I took the liberty of contacting them.”
The name chosen for the Eccetera family of accessories already plays with the possibility of subsequent developments, continuing to cut and bend to obtain other objects, considering that the one used is only one of the ways in which you can cut / bend a plate. The collection will be officially unveiled during the Salone del Mobile, and will be available for sale from September 2022.
