L’Altro by Sagoma Studio
Located in the Porta Romana district of Milan, the new L’Altro space results from the revitalization of a 75 sqm commercial area with two display windows on Via Mantova 13. Sagoma Studio’s design approach prioritized continuity over a specific historical configuration, abandoning a hierarchical view between the original and the change.

The project focused on careful work with coatings and surfaces, valorizing existing structures and materials. The original terrazzo floor, worn over time, serves as a tangible memory of the site’s historical stratification. Sanded and painted walls reveal evident textures from the past, highlighting the interaction between history and contemporary intervention. The architectural design was minimal and targeted, adding only what was functionally necessary.
The “soft” coloring of walls and ceiling balances with more durable materials like concrete, wood, and steel, used for new furniture and finishes. The furnishings were carefully selected to maintain balance and refinement: chairs by designer Klemens Schillinger, a NM3-signature lamp at the counter, and of course our taps: Modo collection for the bathroom designed by Luca Papini, and a filtration kitchen mixer for the kitchen counter. Elements that, along with more material textures, contribute to the coherence of the project.

A distinctive detail is the fully red bathroom with a rough finish, creating a bold and scenographic contrast with the rest of the space. Through this intervention, Sagoma Studio created a space that respects the context and history of the place while providing a clear and contemporary architectural identity capable of harmoniously engaging with both past and present.
